“Lilly” is adjusting extremely well in her new home, and even more rapidly than expected. As many may remember that “Lilly” was the center of attention of a controversial “taking” by a very bias animal control officer (Josh Henderson) with the City of Galveston last month.

On July 21, 2022 animal control with the City of Galveston, (TX) executed a search warrant on a resident that was harboring a Black-Capped Capuchin monkey, (Sapajus apella) in violation of the city ordinances. City officials then quickly urged the owner to sign over legal ownership of the primate, “Lilly” to the city, who was pressing that “Lilly” would go to the Black Beauty Ranch in north Texas. A facility that is operated in large part by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and also boast it’s accreditation with the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, (GFAS).

Though it is legal to own such a primate in Texas, state law allows for cities and municipalities to set their own rules for such ownership inside their individual city limits. Texas Primate Owners United, (TPOU), and organization that supports legal animal ownership was made aware of this situation and was requested for their involvement due to TPOU’s extensive background and experience with such relocations and rescues.

After a day of testimony and cross-examination from all sides, Judge Margaret Hindman made it perfectly clear in her written order the next day that “Lilly” be “awarded to Margaret Hosseini-Browder, Primate Expert and President of Texas Primate Owners United, (TPOU).”

I was ecstatic that the Judge was impartial, and very interested in hearing all sides of this situation. It is because of YOU, that made this happen. The support was overwhelming, and each and ever voice was heard!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of you that made your voice heard and shared in “Lilly’s” call for help.

Margaret Hosseini-Browder
